Briefing of Chemical tank

Publish Time: 2023-03-09     Origin: Site

Chemical tanks are storage containers for chemicals widely used in the chemical industry. They come in a variety of sizes and shapes and are used for static storage, processing, blending and transportation of raw materials and finished chemical products.

Definition

Chemical tank containers must be designed for specific chemicals, as all chemicals have variable corrosion potentials, so there is no one size fits all.The chemical and application parameters should design the tank container, below is the "tip of the iceberg" view for defining a chemical storage tank.

Design

A.Chemical storage tank design is critical to the long-term proper functioning of chemical storage containers/tanks.Keeping chemicals under control is a science, including choosing the right tank material, with chemical resistance being the number one priority.

B.Chemical tanks must be constructed of materials that are resistant to storage of chemicals where design and economics permit.

C.The design will further incorporate the mechanical parameters of the application (pressure and temperature, erosion and corrosion potential) over the specified service life of the vessel.

D.Chemical compatibility, your chemical supplier has the chemical resistance information you need.Chemical suppliers may be able to assist with details on which tank/container materials, gaskets and piping materials are suitable for your chemical.

E.Typically, chemical manufacturers produce a chemical profile and information report called an MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet). This report is provided by all U.S.chemical manufacturers or distributors and should be used as a starting point for your chemical storage tank/container design. This MSDS report further provides basic safety data on how the chemical affects/harms humans and how you should react if you are exposed to the chemical. Many chemicals have associated health risks, with potentially fatal short- and long-term effects.

F.Chemical container/tank/container design can be affected by many factors including heat, cold, vacuum, pressure, exothermic reactivity, and the inherent aggressiveness of the chemical (acid-caustic, etc.).Considering these physical and chemical effects in the design will affect the viability of the tank/vessel as a suitable container.(Example:Failure of a heating system required to prevent freezing of a liquid chemical: such a failure would result in inaccessible process use of the chemical, shutting down your process, alternate design considerations should be incorporated where economics permit.)

G.Have short and long term goals related to engineering and specification of chemical tanks/containers/vessels.While economics are a factor, the design of chemical storage containers and the impact of chemicals on the environment are critical.

H.Secondary containment is a backup strategy to mitigate potential failure of the primary containment/tank/vessel.The typical outline of a vessel with secondary containment is a primary containment/vessel surrounded by an outer vessel shell Main container, with at least 100% plus capacity. Tank/Container Secondary is available in polyethylene, fiberglass and metal.Secondary containment system recommended for all corrosive chemicals.
