The fuel bladder,the fuel storage bladder is a flexi-bag that acts as a fuel container.They are collapsible flexible storage bladders (also known as tanks) that provide transportation and storage (temporary or long-term) for bulk industrial liquids such as fuel.Standard bladder capacities range from 100 US gallons (380 L) to 200,000 US gallons (760,000 L) and beyond.Custom fuel storage bladders and batteries may be used, but there is an increased risk of fuel leaks above 50,000 US gallons (190,000 liters).To minimize the risk of leaks,and to contain catastrophic leaks,all fuel bladders should be housed in secondary containment (dikes).Using fuel bladders without taking precautions is risky and should not be performed.EPA has established clear guidelines for the use of secondary containment in relation to fuel bladders and fines for releasing fuel into the environment.

Fuel bladders are used in various fields such as agribusiness,public works, humanitarian, military and industrial.Standard tanks are designed for use and operation on land, but with proper support they can also be used in marine environments and aviation.Fuel bladders are also commonly used in oil spill recovery operations.The high-end fuel bladder provides a high degree of protection for the stored liquid,ensuring that the contents never come into contact with the air.This ensures that there is no risk of evaporation or explosion due to gas formation.To prevent liquid contamination,a neutral barrier membrane is added to the interior of the fuel bladder.Fuel bladders are most useful in situations where critical infrastructure is damaged or non-existent.The benefits of using flexible storage systems like fuel bladders include their ability to be shipped and installed quickly. GMA Cover Corp, advertises their pillow-shaped airbags as being collapsible and occupying less than 5% of their overall volume.Fuel bladders are highly resistant to climatic conditions,making them ideal for disaster zone and wartime desert operations.

Technical characteristics

High-end fuel bladders are made from elastomer-coated fabrics, usually manufactured by homogeneous vulcanization in one operation.The fabric ensures the mechanical strength required for transport and storage.Coating and design engineering provide compatibility with intended content (fuel).Fuels are generally classified as hazardous and therefore have strict regulations on container construction, field performance and marking.

Transportation

Fuel bladders can be equipped with all components required for transport; for example,water transport or vehicle fuel transport.The flexible tank is equipped with adjustable skirts and adjustable tow straps,designed to provide high resistance to transport restrictions.If the user needs to transform the traditional storage tank into a movable flexible storage tank, the adjustable skirt can be replaced by a belt net.Specially developed flexible fuel bladders can also be towed with sleds,as was done on the unique Antarctic expedition by German and British scientific teams.

Additional uses

Pillow tanks can be designed for non-fuel bulk liquid transportation, industrial chemicals, potable water, sludge and fuel storage.They are also used as "water bladders".The synthetic fabric used is tough and strong to avoid damage and prevent leaks.Ultra-tough "crash-resistant" oil bladders reinforced with fibers such as Kevlar are popular in the motorsports industry and are considered a key safety component mandated by top racing series such as Formula 1 and NASCAR. The development of flexible crashworthy fuel bladders has significantly reduced the number of fires and subsequent explosions that often occur during intense racing crashes.The same collision avoidance technology can also be found in military/industrial vehicles,combat aircraft and aircraft.
